Why choose packing boxes?
Packing boxes possess a range of protective qualities and because there are so many sizes available, they are a well known packaging staple for hundreds of thousands of businesses. Not only are they extremely cost effective, they’re eco friendly too - in fact, cardboard is one of the materials with the least environmental impact as the manufacturing process decreases oil and CO2 emissions by over 50%.
You will find that the majority of packing boxes are made from corrugated cardboard - a fluted layer in between two outer board layers. Flutes are the wave shaped structure you will see along the edges of boxes - these provide the strength that reinforces your cardboard box. There are different types of flute grades which come in a variety of sizes and thickness, all having different purposes depending on the type of packaging. Most packing boxes are made using C-flute as it is the most common choice for strength and versatility. Corrugated cardboard provides shock absorbing resistance to damage or crushing that could occur in transit or storage.
Packing boxes are also highly customisable, so if you’re looking to showcase your brand image, improve brand awareness and customer perception - custom boxes might be a great fit for you.
How do I choose the right packing box?
With so many different styles available, it can be tricky knowing which would suit your packaging needs best. Whether it be single wall or double wall cardboard boxes for reliability, postal boxes for cost-saving shipping or ColomPac boxes to speed your despatches, make sure you identify what you want to use the packing box for and ensure you get your measurements right to get the perfect sized box. Check out our helpful guide on choosing the right packing box.
Single or double wall packing boxes
Now you know what corrugated cardboard is, you might be wondering what differentiates single wall boxes from double wall boxes - well as the name suggests, single wall is made from a single layer of corrugated cardboard whereas double wall boxes feature 2 layers of corrugated cardboard. Find out which one is the right choice for you.
How to dispose of packing boxes
Luckily, the majority of packing boxes are recyclable - but whilst it might seem like an obvious answer, it’s one that can easily be forgotten. Cardboard packaging is super easy for you and your customers to recycle as it can be put in home paper and cardboard recycling bins. The only thing you need to consider is the type of tape you use to seal your boxes. It might seem great being able to recycle your cardboard box, but if you stick some plastic tape on that isn’t fully removed properly - it cannot be recycled. We advise opting for paper tape instead - then there’s no need to worry about removing it before disposal, simply pop the entire box including the tape into your recycling.
