Packing tape (also known as parcel tape or packaging tape) keeps every box closed between your packing bench and your customer's door. Our range includes low-cost clear and brown plastic tape, 3M and Scotch tape, low noise rolls for busy packing areas, self-adhesive paper tape, gummed paper tape for added security and fragile tape. Pair it with one of our tape dispensers to keep your despatch moving.
The right tape depends on what you're sending, how heavy it is and how many parcels leave your door each day. Here's a quick guide to the main types we stock.
Our standard 48mm x 66m rolls are the everyday choice for sealing cartons and postal packaging. Brown blends in with cardboard, while clear gives a neat, professional finish. If you seal a lot of boxes, the longer 48mm x 150m clear roll means fewer roll changes, and our low noise tape unwinds more quietly, which helps in a busy packing area.
If you'd rather stick with a brand you know, we stock 3M and Scotch packing tape, including 3M 309 low noise, 3M 369 and 371, and Scotch 3739 high performance tape, alongside a Sellotape range. Each product page has the full specification.
Paper packing tape has strong resistance to moisture and humidity, and it's a straightforward swap if you're cutting down on plastic. Choose from eco-friendly self-adhesive paper tape in 38mm, 50mm and 75mm widths, Scotch 3444 brown paper tape, or reinforced self-adhesive paper tape for heavier boxes. Our Priory Elements EcoTape is also worth a look.
Gummed paper tape is water-activated, so it bonds with the cardboard itself and is very hard to remove without showing signs of tampering. That makes it a good choice for pilfer resistance and high-value goods. We stock reinforced gummed tape in 70mm width on 100m and 305m rolls, applied with a water-activated tape dispenser.
Fragile tape is printed with a warning so couriers and handlers know to take extra care. We have plastic and paper versions, so you can match it to the rest of your packaging.
Our machine tape comes in 48mm x 990m rolls in brown, clear and colours, for automatic case sealing. If you're looking to automate, take a look at our case tapers too.
A dispenser makes sealing quicker and neater. Browse our handheld tape dispensers for standard self-adhesive tape, or our water-activated dispensers for gummed paper tape. Still unsure? Our guide to choosing the right packing tape will help, and you can pick up cardboard boxes to seal at the same time.
We have a great selection of plastic packing tapes offering a neat, professional finish, self-adhesive paper tapes that have a strong resistance to moisture and humidity, and gummed paper tapes for unmatched security and pilfer resistance.
An essential packaging and postal product; packing tape is the finishing touch to sign, seal, and deliver your products. With our range of high quality 3M tape, and our low cost, unbranded alternatives; there’s a packing tape option to suit all.
There isn't one. Packing tape, parcel tape and packaging tape are all names for tape used to seal boxes and parcels. Whatever you call it, choose by material (plastic, paper or gummed), width and roll length.
The first figure is the width of the tape and the second is the length of the roll. 48mm is the standard width for sealing most cartons, and 66m is a common roll length for hand-applied tape.
Both do the same job, so it's mostly about appearance. Brown blends in with cardboard, while clear is less noticeable on white or printed boxes.
Low noise tape is designed to unwind more quietly than standard tape, which helps in busy packing areas where lots of boxes are sealed back to back. We stock it in clear and brown, including 3M 309.
It depends on the job. Reinforced gummed paper tape is our most secure option because it bonds with the carton. For plastic tape, Scotch 3739 is our high performance choice.
Yes. Our paper tapes, including eco-friendly self-adhesive paper tape and gummed paper tape, are a good alternative to plastic tape.
Not strictly, but a dispenser makes taping quicker and neater, especially if you pack in volume. Gummed paper tape does need a water-activated dispenser to apply it.
Apply tape along the centre seam so it overlaps a few centimetres onto each side, and do the same on the base. For heavier boxes, add strips along the edge seams too (known as H-taping).
