Shredded Paper

Shredded paper is one of the most versatile void fill and presentation materials in any packing operation — effective at cushioning products against movement in transit, widely used in gift packaging and hamper presentation, and fully recyclable, biodegradable, and plastic free. Available in kraft, natural, and coloured variants in quantities from 1kg up to 10kg.

Types of shredded paper

Kraft shredded paper is the most popular choice for general void fill and gift packaging — the natural brown colour gives a clean, earthy presentation that works well inside gift boxes, hamper boxes, and retail packaging. Available in 1kg, 5kg, and 10kg quantities. See our kraft shredded paper range.

Natural zigzag shredded paper uses a distinctive crinkle-cut format that creates more volume and visual texture than standard shred — popular for premium hamper presentation and retail gifting. See our natural zigzag shredded paper.

Wood wool is made entirely from kiln-dried wood shavings and offers a rustic, natural finish that works particularly well for artisan food, luxury gifting, and premium retail packaging. Carbon neutral, plastic free, biodegradable, and made from sustainably sourced materials. See our wood wool void fill.

Shredded paper vs shredded tissue paper

Shredded paper and shredded tissue paper serve similar purposes but suit different applications. Shredded paper — particularly kraft and natural variants — is more robust and better suited to void fill in shipping boxes. Shredded tissue paper is finer and softer, making it the better choice for delicate product presentation inside gift boxes and retail packaging where the tactile quality matters. Both are recyclable and plastic free.

What to use shredded paper with

Shredded paper works best as part of a broader packaging combination. For gift packaging, it pairs naturally with our gift boxes and cardboard gift boxes — particularly magnetic gift boxes where presentation inside the box is as important as the box itself. Our tissue paper range can also be layered with shredded paper for a more complete presentation finish.

For shipping boxes that need both void fill and impact protection for fragile items, shredded paper can be combined with bubble wrap or corrugated cardboard rolls to wrap the item before bedding it in shred. For higher volume operations, our paper void fill systems and packing peanuts may be more practical alternatives to loose shredded paper.

Frequently asked questions

Can shredded paper be recycled?

Yes — all shredded paper products in our range are fully recyclable alongside standard paper and cardboard recycling. Wood wool is also compostable. Use our recycling locator to find your nearest facility.

How much shredded paper do I need to fill a gift box or hamper?

For a standard gift box, 100–200g of shredded paper is usually sufficient for a generous presentation fill. For a larger hamper box, 500g to 1kg gives a full, well-presented bed for products to sit in. Our range starts from 1kg bags, with 5kg and 10kg options for regular or higher-volume use.
