Double Wall Cardboard Boxes
Double wall cardboard boxes are built for products that need serious protection. Where a single wall box has one layer of corrugated fluting, double wall has two — giving you significantly more crush resistance, stacking strength, and resilience against the rough handling that heavier or higher-value items tend to encounter in transit.
With a load capacity of up to 25kg and a wide range of sizes, they're the go-to choice for anything where a standard box isn't quite up to the job.
When do you need double wall?
Double wall boxes earn their keep in a few specific situations:
Heavy products. Anything over around 10kg should go in a double wall box. The extra board layer distributes weight more evenly and holds its structure under load in a way single wall simply can't.
Fragile items. The additional fluting acts as a cushion, absorbing impact and reducing the shock transferred to contents during transit. If you're despatching ceramics, glassware, electronics, or anything else where a damaged delivery is costly, double wall is the right call.
Stacking and palletisation. If boxes are going to be stacked in storage or loaded onto pallets, double wall's superior compression strength makes a measurable difference to how well the stack holds up.
Moving house or office. Our moving boxes use double wall construction for exactly this reason — a house move involves heavier loads, more handling, and less controlled conditions than a standard courier despatch.
Double wall vs single wall
The decision usually comes down to product weight and fragility. For most everyday ecommerce despatch under 10kg, single wall cardboard boxes are perfectly sufficient and more cost-effective. Double wall is worth the small additional cost when the consequences of damage — product replacement, returns handling, customer service time — outweigh the saving on packaging.
