As more businesses are keen to move away from both single and multi-use plastics, it’s become incredibly apparent that there are significant gaps in sustainable packaging materials which can deliver the benefits we get from using plastic, but without the environmental damage. The only way businesses will be able to ditch plastic for good is if there’s a suitable alternative available; so, what options are there?
Paper Document Enclosed Wallets
Document enclosed wallets have been a feature of despatch operations since ecommerce began as they allow sellers to easily attach a packing note with the customer address to the package outer. However, sticking a piece of plastic to a potentially otherwise eco friendly package slightly defeats the point of being eco friendly in the first place as it can make the eco friendly material non recyclable. They’re still an essential for those despatching goods though, so luckily there’s now an alternative which is made entirely from paper. I’ve questioned it myself as surely paper doesn’t match up to the qualities of plastic, but glassine paper document enclosed wallets are the solution that eCommerce sellers have been crying out for. They look the same as the plastic equivalents, they work the same as the plastic equivalents, but they’re fully (and easily) recyclable, biodegradable, sustainably sourced, and completely plastic free. It also means if they’re stuck to a cardboard box or envelope, they don’t need to be removed and can be recycled in one go.
Grass Paper Mailing Bags
Paper mailing bags have been preferred by thousands of retailers who have made the swap away from age-old polythene mailers. Whilst paper is super easy to recycle once it’s used, continually harvesting trees to be made into paper is draining the planet’s resources. However, there’s now even an alternative to traditional paper, and it’s made from grass. Grass is an excellent eco friendly, fast-growing, renewable resource which emits 75% less CO2 emissions in the manufacturing process compared to paper. They use significantly less water too, so they protect the planet, and the products you put inside them.
