Harrods and Mygroup have expanded their cosmetics recycling scheme across the luxury retailer’s five H beauty stores in the UK. This initiative follows a successful trial and aims to combat the issue of cosmetic packaging ending up in landfills. The H beauty recycling scheme allows customers to bring used beauty, makeup, and skincare products back to the stores for recycling. In exchange, participants receive rewards through the MyBeauty loyalty scheme. The British Beauty Council reports that only 9% of cosmetic packaging is recycled through conventional household waste channels, making this expansion crucial in promoting sustainability within the beauty industry.

 

Additionally, Maybelline New York has partnered with TerraCycle to launch the UK’s largest makeup recycling scheme. Specialist in-store recycling bins have been introduced in over 1,000 Tesco, Superdrug, Boots, and Sainsbury’s stores across the country. Consumers can now drop off their makeup empties from any brand, contributing to a more environmentally conscious approach to beauty product disposal.
