Unboxing Bamboo Clothing

Unboxing Bamboo Clothing

Hi, I'm Josh from Priory Direct. We're a sustainable packaging company. We help e-commerce businesses minimise their impact on the environment and this is our unboxing Series in which we take a look at how some brands are doing a great job with their packaging and talk to you about the key points.

Today we're here to unbox a package from Bamboo Clothing. They're a brand that we're really happy to support. They are an ethical clothing brand that also choose bamboo as a more sustainable alternative for some of the more common fibers out there in people's clothing. We're proud to work with them and we're also particularly proud because they choose Priory Elements paper mailing bags as their packaging choice. It's something that comes up in their reviews a lot and it was a change that we worked through with them and we've written a case study about as well so if you want to know more then there'll be some resources outside this video for you to have a look at.

So first things first, this is what the parcel looks like when it arrives. Really strong eco markers on here. All of these products are sold in partnership with 1% For the Planet which means 1% of all revenue goes to planet supporting charities.

We're a carbon neutral company and a certified BCorp, which means we're committed to the highest standards of ethics and sustainability within our supply chain. The size is size one, which is a penguin, and all of our Priory Elements products have an endangered animal or a key species as their sizes to raise awareness. This QR code takes the customer to more information about the product and its sustainability credentials. It's a paper bag, it has a real obvious low impact feel to it in terms of it's a paper material there's no plastic in the presentation and plastic is really really unpopular with consumers for lots of good reasons. So it sends a really strong message. Let's open it and see how they're done inside.

So as you can see Bamboo Clothing are taking a paper approach throughout which is amazing because they're not using any plastic garment bags. LDPE recycling in the UK is something we talk about a lot. Low density polythene plastic films are really really hard to recycle and very very poorly catered for in the UK so it’s something that we don't see any strong recycling credentials in. It's all in paper so it really sends a very strong sustainable message.

We do have a sort of cheesy line that we say that the only marketing you have that has 100% opening rate is your packaging. And often in e-commerce the first time your goods meet people in the physical world and the first chance they have to interact with your brand is when they receive their package so it’s really important to present yourself sustainably, to present the key messages that your brand wants to put across, and to give people that great experience. All plastic free, clear eco messaging and a clear piece of brand credentials put in there. So I look forward to trying out these products. They're actually boxers which I've heard have brilliant reviews so yeah very keen to have a look at those. In terms of what we achieved by migrating bamboo clothing away from poly mailers in their packaging it was a 49% reduction in their carbon footprint, and a saving of over eight tons of single-use plastic per year. So it's been a really impactful product uh project for them and as I said it features regularly in their customer reviews how much they enjoy this plastic free, sustainable and ethical unboxing experience. So that's the first in our unboxing series we're going to be looking at a lot more brands. If you know any brands doing a great job with their packaging that you'd like us to feature please do comment. If you've got any questions about what the best sustainable packaging approaches for your business might be, or anything about the science behind our life cycle assessment for Bamboo Clothing, then you'll find some resources under this video but please do like and subscribe and leave some comments and we'd be really happy to have a conversation. Thank you very much.
